134,000 vehicles recalled Q1 in China

BEIJING, (Xinhua) -- A total of 45 auto recalls were conducted in the Chinese mainland in the first three months of 2014, covering 134,000 flawed vehicles, the country's quality watchdog said on Tuesday.

Engine flaws were the main reason for the recalls, involving 45,000 units, Chen Xitong, spokesman for the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ), said at a press conference.

Vehicles recalled on bodywork flaws totaled 33,000 units, while 24,000 units were recalled for electronic and circuit defects, Chen said.

China put in place a recall system for flawed cars in 2005, and set up similar systems for food and toys in 2007.
