China adds policies to boost new energy car industry

The State Council released new policies on Monday to support the development of new energy vehicles in China. The government guidelines focus more on the construction of charging facilities than did previous policies.

China¡¯s new energy vehicle industry heard some good news on Monday. The State Council announced up to 25 specific policies to boost the development of the sector. The government had encouraged the public to buy new energy cars in early 2012. But a lack of charging facilities makes potential customers reluctant to buy. That explains why seven out of the 25 policies aim to improve charging facilities in the future.

The new guidelines also say that the market access level will be lowered in the future and encourage more private capital to invest in the construction and operation of charging facilities. More than 20 thousand new energy cars have been sold in China during the first half of this year.
