Biggest auto show in central China opens

The 15th Wuhan International Motor Show is also taking center stage in the city. Auto makers from around the world are showcasing their latest, cutting-edge technologies at the biggest auto show in central China.

The 2014 Wuhan auto show kicked off on Thursday. Day one attracted over 300 automakers from such countries as China, Japan, France, and the US. The automakers are rolling out their latest and best cars at the show.

Green cars are also in the spotlight. Local automakers such as Dongfeng are showcasing their latest achievements with new energy vehicles. Other automakers such as BYD also hope electric-hybrid cars will become a new source of profit.

But green cars are facing looming hurdles and many people have their own concerns about the high-tech vehicles.

¡°I will wait until more charging stations are built. So far it¡¯s still lack of the electric station to power the vehicle in the public areas. I don¡¯t want to spend so much to buy a car that can only be used near home,¡±a local resident said.
¡°Oil is a non-renewable energy resource. It will run out if we use it like this. So we will definitely replace the current fuel-powered cars with the new energy ones in the future. But the government should provide more help. Otherwise, the automakers are hard pressed to continue making the green cars,¡± said Zhang Guangde, vice director of Automotive Dept. of Wuhan University of Science And Technology.

The six-day Wuhan auto show is expected to attract more than 450 thousand visitors to the local exhibition center.

Meanwhile, the 2014 Global Automotive Forum started on the same day. Thousands of professionals in the automotive sector were expected to attend and express their visions for the development of China¡¯s automotive industry.
