2014 Chinese new energy vehicle sales set to top 60000 units, market draws attention from various manufacturers

Gasgoo.com - A total of 53,000 new energy vehicles were sold in November, Economic Observer News reported today. New energy passenger automobile sales grew 70 percent. Pure electric automobiles sales grew sevenfold, while those of hybrids grew 25 times. Total new energy sales for the year look to break the 60,000 sales barrier.

According to an analyst from PricewaterhouseCoopers, China¡¯s new energy automobile sales volume will near the levels of the US by 2020. As such, many manufacturers are taking steps to expand their coverage in the Chinese market.

On that note, SAIC remains the only domestic manufacturer to have products in the pure electric, hybrid electric and fuel-battery segments. The own brand is looking to release more products in the coming year.

GAC, meanwhile, is focusing its efforts on extended range electric vehicles. At the recently-held Guangzhou Auto Expo, the manufacturer officially displayed the extended range GA5 (pictured).

New entries to BAIC¡¯s BJEV line-up is also scheduled for release next year. The new models, which are codenamed C10IB and C50EB, will be built on a brand new platform. In addition, a midsize car, being jointly developed alongside a US company, is also in the works.

Changan will release brand new pure electric and hybrid electric technology next year. Meanwhile, Tesla will also bring over two new models, the Model S P85D and the Model X, to China in 2015. BMW for its part is also looking to release its 5 Series of pure electrics in the country early next year.
