Gasgoo.com - Total sales in the Chinese passenger automobile market totaled 2.04 million units in January, the Beijing Morning Post reported today, citing statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers. Although, the number is 1.12 percent lower than the previous month¡¯s amount, it is still 10.35 percent higher than sales figures from last January. Meanwhile, the market share held by own brand manufacturers grew in January, reversing negative trends from the past few months.
A total of 867,800 own brand automobiles were sold in the country in January, up 2.26 percent from December and up 21.45 percent from the previous January. Own brand sales in January made up 42.58 percent of all automobiles sold in the country, up 1.40 percent from the previous month and up 3.89 percent from the previous year.
As for foreign brand passenger automobiles, German brands¡¯ sales grew 50 percent. French brands sales also grew a commendable amount. Monthly sales of German, US, Japanese, Korean and French passenger automobiles totaled 446,200 units, 244,000 units, 243,500 units, 159,400 units and 73,300 units, respectively.
The Chinese sedan market continued to perform weakly, with just 285,800 units sold over the course of the month. The figure is 12.56 percent less than the amount sold the previous month and only slightly more than the amount sold a year ago. Sedan sales made up less than a quarter of all automobiles sold during the month. FAW Volkswagen was the country¡¯s biggest seller of sedans, followed successively by Shanghai VW, Shanghai GM, Beijing Hyundai, Changan Ford, Dongfeng Nissan, Dongfeng Citroën, Changan Automobile, Geely and Dongfeng Yueda Kia. The above ten companies accounted for 72.83 percent of all automobile sales made over the course of the month.
