Gasgoo.com - Earlier this month, the Wuhan Provincial Development and Reform Commission released a statement officially detailing Shanghai General Motors¡¯ so-called new generation C-series engine project. Shanghai GM will manufacture 300,000 1.0 L turbocharged engines annually in Wuhan, the provincial capital of Hubei. A spokesperson from the joint venture stated that they had long since decided that producing smaller and smaller engines would be a future trend for Shanghai GM.

According to information revealed in the statement, the three valve 1.0 L turbocharged engines will be able to produce 82 kW/L. Reports show that Shanghai GM has invested 1.91 billion RMB ($312.53m) in the project. Shanghai GM¡¯s production of 1.4 L turbocharged and 1.5 L engines has already begun last year.

In addition to Shanghai GM, several manufacturers, such as VW, PSA and Kia, have already begun preparation of manufacture of smaller engines in China.
