Gasgoo.com - Geely and China Xindayang have joined forces to release its second electric vehicle, the ZD D2, at a price point of 158,800 RMB ($26,082). National and local subsidies along with manufacturer discounts add up to a total of 49,800 RMB ($8,179) of savings for customers. Depending on the region, buyers can purchase the vehicle for a price tag of 70,000 RMB ($11,497).
Bao Wenguang, president of the ZD brand, stated that the cooperation with Geely has helped advance the company¡¯s plans to release electric micro cars by five to 10 years. Geely¡¯s manufacturing facilities and supplier network helped greatly contribute to the vehicle¡¯s development.
¡°The ZD D2 (pictured) represents a turning point,¡± Mr. Bao boasted. Originally ZD only marketed its vehicles in third-tier cities to save costs. However, with the expansion of government subsidy policies, the company has announced that the ZD D2 will be sold in first- and second-tier cities as well.
Mr. Bao is confident that the D2 can achieve annual sales of 20,000 units this year. Geely¡¯s partner Xindayang, which has invested over a decade of time helping to develop the vehicle, depends on its successful market performance. The company plans to start reaping profits from the new vehicle next year.
Mr. Bao added that he believes that electric micro cars like ZD¡¯s models will play an important role in promoting development of the market for EVs in first- and second-tier cities. He predicts that sales in this segment will reach the 100,000 mark. His goal is to have ZD account for at least 20% of those sales.
To achieve this, ZD will release its next model, the ZD D3, in the early half of 2016.
